Great Side-by-Side -- but side-by-sides have their issues4
The GE Profile Stainless Refrigerator looks and works great, although buyers who have never before owned a full side-by-side should be aware of issues inherent in the design.

First, the good: the door shelves are deep and adjustable, so you can make sure you have at least one area where liter bottles of soda or wine bottles with corks sticking up fit. Both the meat/cheese and the vegetable/fruit drawers are ample size, with the lower Turbo Cool drawer having less depth but still offering additional space. The tempered glass shelves are sturdy and easily removed for cleaning and height adjustment. I've had an incredibly full refrigerator, with dishes stacked on top of each other, without any problem with the weight on the glass. Separate temperature adjustments for the freezer and refrigerator are accurate.

The freezer has some rubber-coated wire shelves and pull-out drawers. The water dispenser/ice maker feeds through the top of the freezer, so the top shelf has limited room.

The drawbacks? Well, a side-by-side has a narrow freezer, which means you cannot fit, say, frozen pizza boxes inside unless you remove a shelf and stick it on its side. The same is true for the refrigerator side -- anything wide is not going to fit.

On a different note, the dispensed water is never cold, even though it technically feeds up through the freezer door; I guess this means that the freezer itself is extremely well-insulated. Still, I'd like cooler water. Of course, the cube and crushed ice dispensers can changed that instantly.

The brushed steel exterior shows fingerprints, although not as readily as a mirrored finish will. I recommend getting Magic Complete Stainless Steel Cleaner, 14-Ounce (Pack of 6) or something similar to clean the surface.

If you are in love with a complete side-by-side design, this refrigerator is a great choice. If you want additional freezer width but still want side-by-side refrigerator doors, check out French door models with a lower, pull-out freezer.

Broke after less than 18 months1
I bought this at Sears. I talked to the repairman. There is a design flaw. The cooling system is now part of the same unit as the drainage for condensation which empties into a tray for evaporation at the very bottom. That means corrosion can creep into the cooling system. They used to be separate but these days to save on parts they make it one system. Kenmore does this too. It means they don't last. Bad. When we bought it, I asked the salesman and THEY DON'T KNOW if the cooling and drainage are one unit or not. Coincidentally, most makers have shorter warranties now. They know it won't last, they designed it!!!

not much to say, I mean really, it just holds paper towels. but it looks sleek, and after using it for several days now, it works great! the rubber lining might get dusty / lint-y / fur covered over time, as it seems a bit 'tacky' but I expect that I would probably be able to clean that up with a piece of tape from my lint roller, if + when needed.

Cuisinart 20-Cup Food Processors
From Cuisinart

Cuisinart DLC-XP Food Processor Plus

EXPENSIVE BUT WORTH IT!5
I'll preface this by saying that I have cooked professionally for almost 15 years. Before ordering this massive processor, I checked out almost everything comparable. I am delighted with my selection. This processor is very powerful. If you have a large family or do a lot of entertaining, this one is for you. The work bowl is massive, and batters don't slop out. The motor can handle multiple batches of cookie dough. You can turn out cake batter in no time, and in big quantities. I went for a big processor as I have a large family. Several years ago I catered my daughter's wedding reception, and how I wish I had this processor at that time. Now it's easy to produce huge amounts of pesto, knead multiple recipes of bread dough, and slice tons of veggies. This product is a TOTAL WINNER!

A Mighty Giant with an Achilles Heel4
I've had my DLC-X for roughly ten years now. I bought the largest size specifically for doing bread. Even though it's a very large and impressive-looking unit, it takes up only a little more space than the smaller, more popular models. Also, at that time, the 'X' had a stronger shaft setup and a heavier-duty switching system than the smaller models.

The ability of this machine to chop, shred, slice, etc., is amazing. One of the Cuisinart tricks I've used for years to save time is the practice of mixing up a salad dressing, then shred and slice the remainder of the salade, finally inverting the whole thing into a large bowl where the dressing drains over the salad.

Being an appliance freak, I bought all the accessory disks, which on this machine are the size of 45-rpm records, and the whisk attachment. This attachment fit on the center shaft and rotated a small set of twin beaters around counter to the attachment rotation. It worked well for whipping cream, but I broke the gears in two of them doing mashed potatoes and a fairly sticky candy. As these were running about $75 each back then, I never replaced it.

In my opinion, the greatest design weakness is the plastic lid with its engagement mechanism on the back side. I've been through three tops because the Lexan eventually cracks and breaks. No, I don't abuse the lids or use the mechanism as an on/off switch, it just seems to happen. Perhaps in the newer ones they've strengthened this area, hopefully so. The feed chute is a pain to clean but Cuisinart was trying for max flexibility. Nothing, certainly, that I can't live with.

My other regret is that Cuisinart hasn't made the flat lid w/o tube available for this model. I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

My cooking style has changed somewhat over the past ten years. I don't use my 'X' as much as I used to, but am glad to have it waiting for me when I need it!

By the way, I discovered that a generic case made for a sewing serger accommodates my machine like it was made for it! This makes it very easy to transport the machine and not have to worry about breaking something off.

A bust1
Mine arrived broken.

After much aggravation with the customer service, which gave wrong info and wanted me to send it in at my own expense, Cuisinart finally told me Ca law made them pick it up for nothing. It took two months and lots of Cuisinart mistakes to get it back to me. And I was also billed for the repair and went through hell getting them to find that it was under warranty.

Then, too, I received this repaired, top of the line product back with a broken plug.

Then a really nasty cusomer service sup., without apologies and a truly hard-nosed ugly manner lays down the law...I have to send it in at my expense and they will take another 3 to 4 weeks to fix it and there is nothing I can do about it (she said that).

Finally an upper level supervisor, whom I insisted on speaking with, realized none of this was my fault and, while still making me send it for yet another repair and refusing to exchange the twice wrecked unit, at least agreed to pay shipping, etc.

I am sorry I ever did business with Cuisinart (Conair), and never will again, if I can help it.

Very useful little tool for canning.5
This is the handiest, most useful little tool. I was always burning my fingers getting the canning lids out of the hot water. This has the little magnet on the end that just lifts them right up so you can then put them on the jars. I love it. Very inexpensive, too.

  • Dimensions: 8.40" h x 9.30" w x 13.10" l, 4.20 pounds

This compact two-slot toaster from KitchenAid comes with a menu of toasting features and a sturdy, user-friendly structure. KitchenAid's Even Heat system automatically adjusts the heavy-gauge heating elements, so toast comes out consistently, even in large batches. A bagel function toasts the cut side of bagels, while simply warming the crusts, and a warming function gently reheats previously toasted foods. The Easy Lift lever and Soft Rise feature are both helpful when lowering slices or raising them to a graspable height. Notably wide and deep, the self-centering dual slots accommodate thick slices of brioche or fat bagels. Other handy details include a dial for shade control, "cut side" markings for bagel toasting, power indicator lights, a dishwasher-safe crumb tray, and power cord storage hooks. The toaster's stainless-steel interior and polycarbonate housing are built to last and easy to clean. The unit measures 11 by 7-3/4 by 6-3/4 inches. --Emily Bedard

Excellent for Bagels4
This is the only toaster on the market that has a differential heating button (hotter on the inside heaters, lesser on the outside heaters) to be used only for bagels. The cut side of the bagel (inside) will toast nicely, whereas the uncut side (outside) will only warm. The bagel comes out perfect, not rock hard which is often the case when it's been toasted on both sides.

My only disappointment with this toaster is how it toasts regular white bread/English Muffins. Since the bread is thin, it is held too far away from the heating elements, and it usually takes two attempts to get the bread actually toasted to anything more than just a light brown. If you want your toast darker, you'll have to adjust your setting, and then toast again.

If you are looking for a superb toaster for your bagels, this is the one for you. But if you don't eat toasted bagels that often, you would be better off with a more traditional toaster, without the extra wide slats.

Works great! No problem getting dark toast5
I really hesitated to order this toaster because of complaints about it not toasting items completely enough (because, depending on what I am toasting and why, I sometimes like my toast dark). I bought it anyway because of the bagel function, and figured I would just "double toast" if necessary. I have absolutely no complaints about this toaster! If I turn the darkness knob all the way to the darkest setting, I get toast that is quite dark -- what I would call burnt, actually; more importantly, I no longer have to choose between bagels that are not toasted enough (but still soft inside) or toasted as I like them on the outside and dried out inside. The bagel function on this toaster works great -- fully toasted on the cut side and completely warmed throughout without being dried out! This is how a bagel SHOULD be toasted. I don't know if the company has modified the unit, or if others just got "unlucky" or if I just got "lucky", but this toaster works fine for me at whatever setting I use with just a sngle toasting.

One note, though for those of you who expect the empire red toaster to EXACTLY match the empire red stand mixer: the color match is not exact (different exterior materials). It is somewhat noticable (to me, anyway -- my kitchen gets lots of natural light) if they are side by side on the counter, but if they are not side by side, you'll never notice it.

Great for Bagels4
I bought this toaster specifically for Bagels. For that, it is very good. The differential heating, where the cut side of the bagel will toast, and the uncut of the bagel will just warm, is a very good feature. The bagels come out well toasted, but not rock hard due to toasting on both sides.

I am however disappointed with the regular Toasting feature. It appears that, due to the very wide slots in order to accomodate thick bagels, that regular white bread and English Muffins are held too far away from the heating elements in order to sufficiently toast the first time. The toast setting must be reset, and then you'll need to toast a bit more in order to have your final toast "well done" which is how I prefer it.

If you are looking for the only toaster on the market which has a "Bagel" setting (i.e. differential heating) buy this model. It is superb for toasting your bagels. If you are just looking for an ordinary toaster, or don't do bagels that much, this toaster is not for you.

Excellent5
Been looking everywhere for colander this big and I love the 2 I ordered. While I find myself using them almost daily, they are not as sturdy as they appear in photo. The 'screening' is thin and bends easily. OK for straining cooked veggies that are soft and light but if you want to clean fresh veggies and then strain/air dry (i.e., carrots, radishes, celery...anything with a bit of substance), the screening bends and bulges. The base is sturdy and does not tip, the capacity is huge, and it strains nicely. I gave it 5 stars because I do find many uses for it and I like its capacity.

Great size colander!4
I didn't think I needed a colander this size (I always thought bigger is better, right?) but I couldn't resist for the price that Amazon was offering. I am glad I got it because I use it all the time now! We eat lots of fruit in our house and I've found that this size colander is perfect for rinsing off strawberries, grapes, blueberries, etc. I also love how it has a ring on the bottom to help it sit up so the food doesn't come in direct contact with my sink. The material is a bit flimsy, especially for the 10" size, which I have also, but overall it suits what I need for a great price!

Cheap looking?3
Material is very thin and therefore easily deformed. Not as sturdy as other alternatives .. but less expensive than those.

Quality contol4
The kitchen shears work wonderful, nice and sharp. When they arrived, we noticed that the plastic around the rivet holding the shears together was cracked. For the price, we decided it was not worth the trouble of sending them back for a replacement. We would just use the shears until they fell apart.

KitchenAid KN2WJ Water Jacket Attachment For 6QT. Stand Mixers
From Kitchen Aid

The KitchenAid KN2WJ Water Jacket Attachment For 6QT. Stand Mixers fits models KD2661 KP2671 KM25 KV25 KP26M1

  • Amazon Sales Rank: #110732 in Kitchen & Housewares
  • Brand: KitchenAid
  • Model: KN2WJ

Don't buy this part from this vendor.1
I bought KN2WJ from this vendor's website directly, just because S/H became free after purchaing $99 or more.
KN2WJ I received came with the instruction card for the K5AWJ.
The water jacket was slightly water stained, implying that it was probably used.
Without the right instructions, I could not attach the water jacket to my KP26M stand mixer.
I assumed that they sent the wrong water jacket since the instruction card was for the wrong water jacket.
Later, I found that the water jacket that they sent was actually KN2WJ.
However, I still have great difficulties in attaching KN2WJ to my 6QT stand mixer, due to its uneven tabs.
Attaching water jacket to my stand mixer caused scratches and scraping offs of the paint in the base and the arms of the mixer.
It also scratches the protective coating on the bowl.
I requested the correct manual for KN2WJ to be sent to me; however, the request has not been answered.
The customer service person asked me to return the item with insurance at my cost.
There is no explanation for the wrong instruction card and the water stain on the jacket.
I am not sure if this water jacket itself is designed badly, malfactured poorly, refurbished, returned previously by another consumer, or else.
Whatever it is, when the product you received from this company is not quite right, you are going to lose S/H and restocking fee to return this item. This company sells kitchen appliances quite inexpensively; however, I will not purchase from this company again. If you google the reviews for this company, you'll see that I am not the only one who had the negative experiences with them.

Works OK3
If you need this, you need it. It's good for lamingtons (an Australian classic) where you need a warm bath for the eggs if you're making Genoise cake from scratch and then a hot bath for the icing to keep it runny while you dip. Note that it's specific to 6 quart, bowl-lift mixers. It's very big but it needs to be for a 6 quart bowl.

The weak point is the tabs by which it hooks to the arms of the bowl-lift mechanism so that it goes up and down with the bowl. They're not exactly flimsy but they're very exposed and angular which means it's easy to damage yourself when washing/drying the bowl, and damage the tabs with a drop or heavy knock. In fact the KitchenAid packaging was grossly inadequate - just a cardboard box with no foam - so that the tabs were bent when the bowl arrived and had to be carefully straightened.

Rubbermaid Antimicrobial Dish Drainers
From Rubbermaid Food Products

Rubbermaid is the first to market sinkware products with lifelong antimicrobial protection which inhibits the growth of bacteria that can cause stains and odors. The Rubbermaid Antimicrobial Small Dish Drainer features a detachable silverware holder and scratch resistant feet.

Practical and spacious4
The rubbermaid dish drainer in black is big enough to accomodate a large dish rack for a full load of dishes. The price--in comparison with offers from other companies--is great and it looks fine in the kitchen. My only concern is that water doesn't really drain into the sink since the slant/design doesn't force the small accumulations from dripping dishes downward. Therefore, I do have to clean/wipe it regularly. It's a great size, though, and a nice deal for the price.

Cheaper design.2
I recently bought this to replace my previous, 15-year old Rubbermaid dish drainer, which I loved, but which had gotten rusted. This one is not the same design as the previous one. On the original, there was a strip of wire that ran horizontally around the basket, about one inch from the bottom. This strip kept glasses above the edge of the counter. The new design is flimsier and less sanitary, with the edge of the glasses resting on the counter. You also need to be more careful putting the glasses on the prongs on the side, as they could drop against the edge of the counter and crack.

Yich!1
Hate it, hate it, hate it. Nothing larger than a teaspoon or small fork will stay in the cutlery container without easily falling out of the top, and after a couple of years the rubber coating on the rack starts to crack and the rust starts to show. I've been annoyed by Rubbermaid products, and particularly this dish drainer, since 1971, so this isn't a brash review. Do yourself a favor, pay the price and buy a fantastic dish rack on Amazon.com like the simplehuman KT1025 System Dish rack (pricey but worth every dollar) or OXO Good Grips stainless dish rack and sink mats. Their designs are attractive and will blend with any décor, and they are well made and will last for years. The money you save now on the Rubbermaid product will soon be spent on frequent replacements and on aspirin for the headaches this cheap piece of garbage causes.
